Millions of U.S. residents own dogs. Dogs, like all animals, can exhibit unpredictable behaviors and actions resulting in injuries. Every year approximately 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs. Injuries range from minor nips to major attacks. Dog bite injuries are highest among children ages 5 to 9. One in five victims of dog-bites require of medical attention. The majority of dog bites are from familiar canines. Fortunately, the majority of dog bites can be avoided by taking precautions.
