All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are motorized vehicles designed for uneven surfaces. ATVs are a popular vehicles used for recreation and work purposes and are commonly used on farms, ranches, as well as mountainous and desert terrains. According to the ATV Safety Institute, 15 million Americans ride ATVs. However, only a fraction of riders received safety training. About one third of all ATV-related deaths and injuries involve children under the age of 16. Common causes of ATV crashes involved speeding, drinking and driving, driving into traffic, driving in unsafe weather, and driving without proper training.
