Learn how to build an injury prevention program

Falls are common, occurring as a result of various daily activities such as falling out of bed, slipping in the tub, falling off a skateboard, or falling from playground equipment. The number of fall-related injuries is higher among children because their natural curiosity often precedes their developmental capacity.

Infants, who have less control over their mobility, tend to roll off surfaces as they fall and toddlers commonly fall from one level to another (e.g. falling down stairs). School-aged children and older adolescents tend to experience a greater number of recreational falls involving sports and alternative modes of transportation (i.e. skateboards and scooters). For this reason, it is important that parents supervise young children on the playground, and ensure that older children and adolescents use proper safety equipment while playing sports or using skateboards, skates, or scooters.
