Fireworks Safety Month:
It’s summer time and the weather is getting hot. Families and friends are preparing for some outdoor fun. July is typically known for its celebration of Independence Day and the start of barbeque season. However, these outdoor activities pose additional risk for fires and related injuries. According to FireSafety.gov, each year approximately 10,000 Americans are injured by fireworks and nearly 5,000 are injured by charcoal and propane grill fires. For this reason, CIPN reminds families and friends to avoid potential fire hazards this summer and stay injury-free!

Fireworks Safety Tips:
1. Avoid injuries by enjoying public firework displays by trained professionals.
2. If you plan to use fireworks, make sure they are legal in your area.
3. Always read and follow directions and warnings on fireworks.
4. Never wear loose clothing while using fireworks.
5. Never light fireworks indoors or near flammable materials like dry grass.
6. Always have a bucket of water and/or fire extinguisher nearby.
7. Never try to relight fireworks that have not fully functioned.
8. Be sure to supervise children and pets around fireworks at all times.
